Part of the beloved Little People, BIG DREAMS series — beautifully illustrated biographical picture books that introduce young children to the lives of remarkable people who changed the world. This volume tells the story of Simone Biles, the greatest gymnast of all time, whose extraordinary journey from a childhood in foster care to Olympic gold is one of the most inspiring in sporting history.
Once in Ohio, USA, lived a tiny girl who couldn’t keep still. Her name was Simone. When she was three, Simone and her sister went to Texas to live with their grandparents — and jumping on the trampoline and doing flips off furniture became her favourite game. Simone grew so close to her grandparents that she decided to call them Mum and Dad. They taught her to never take things for granted and always try her best. One day, on a school trip to a gymnastics gym, Simone watched the gymnasts and simply started copying them. The coaches were so amazed by her natural talent that they wrote a note to her family asking them to sign her up. Her grandparents knew it was a chance for little Simone to fly — and it would give their sofa a break! As soon as she started training, she proved she had the qualities of a great gymnast: strength, flexibility, balance and grace. Simone began competing aged just 14, and by 19 had won four gold medals for the USA at the World Championships. She went on to become the most decorated gymnast in history, with a collection of Olympic and World Championship medals that no other gymnast has come close to matching. Beyond the medals, Simone became a courageous advocate for mental health awareness, speaking openly about her own struggles and inspiring millions to put their wellbeing first.
Told in simple, engaging language with warm and luminous illustrations by Nadia Fisher, this is a joyful and moving introduction to a true sporting legend. A facts and photos section at the back — including a biographical timeline — brings Simone’s story into the real world.
