LITTLE PEOPLE BIG DREAMS: ROALD DAHL

Discover the extraordinary life of Roald Dahl in this beautifully illustrated biography from the bestselling Little People, BIG DREAMS series. Written by Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara and illustrated by Francis Martin, this is the story of a boy from Cardiff who grew up to become one of the most beloved children's authors in the world.

Little Roald grew up in Cardiff, Wales, in a family with Norwegian roots — a land of tales and legends that fired his vivid imagination. He loved reading with his family and sneaking off to the local sweetshop run by the quirky Mrs Pratchett (who would one day inspire Miss Trunchbull). School was difficult and no one believed in his potential. But when Roald finished school, he was ready for adventure. He travelled the world, served as an RAF pilot in World War II, and survived a plane crash over the desert that left him temporarily blind. Writing about that experience, he discovered his calling.

Working away in the shed at the bottom of his garden, Roald crafted the stories that have captivated generations of readers — from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and The Witches. This thoughtful book also addresses the antisemitic remarks Roald Dahl made during his lifetime, exploring the power of words to both delight and cause lasting harm.
