WOODEN EDUCATIONAL BRITISH ISLES INSET PUZZLE | BIGJIGS

How well do you know your counties? The Bigjigs Toys Wooden British Isles Inset Puzzle is a 28-piece colour-coded map of Great Britain and Ireland, covering England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland down to county and region level. Each brightly coloured wooden piece represents a county or region and sits into a routed cavity in the natural birch baseboard — with the region name and key city or town dot engraved directly into the wood beneath, so children can read the label even when the piece is removed. It’s a brilliantly designed learning tool that gives little ones an extra layer of help as they build.

The completed map labels all the major regions directly on the pieces — Highland, Grampian, Tayside, Strathclyde, Cumbria, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Norfolk, Kent, Cornwall, Devon, Powys, Gwynedd, Galway, Cork, Kerry and many more — with a numbered key on the right listing 28 smaller counties and unitary authorities that couldn’t fit a label on the piece itself. A Shetland inset box sits in the top right corner, and the Channel Islands (Guernsey, Alderney and Jersey) are shown in a separate inset below. The surrounding seas are all labelled too: Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, English Channel, Bristol Channel, St George’s Channel and the North Channel.

An ideal puzzle for children who are starting to learn about the UK — and a great conversation starter for parents and grandparents to enjoy together. Dimensions approx. 38 cm H × 30 cm W × 0.9 cm deep. 28 pieces. Suitable from 3 years. By Bigjigs Toys.
